We are officially one month into the new year! What better way to spend it than trying new restaurants? We’ve got you covered with bucket list-worthy places. Today, we are diving into some of those places in and around the city of Joliet that make a trip out there worth it.

Amba Mediterranean Grill

Starting off our list, Amba is a place serving customizable Mediterranean plates along with many street food favorites.

Pictured above, I had the opportunity to try a bowl with rice, hummus, spicy feta dip, chicken shawarma, kalamata olives, tomato and cucumber salad, and feta. On the side, I tried the Greek Fries, which are made with olive oil, a special Amba seasoning, as well as feta cheese. For dessert, I had some of the rice pudding.

The choices for everything were so cool, with dozens upon dozens of possible food options. Other than bowls, customers can also choose from pitas, wraps, or gyros.

Additionally, there are a choice of dips and spreads to add, ranging from different kinds of hummus to harissa, which is a spicy spread of tomatoes and peppers. For protein, other options include falafel, steak shawarma, roasted vegetables, and more. For a full menu and business hours, click here

The place is located at 1522 Illinois Route 59 in Joliet, Illinois. I cannot recommend this place enough! With so many options and exceptional customer service, they have become an easy favorite.

Krema Coffee House

Moving on to a coffee shop Joliet locals visit, Krema is a cute coffee shop on the street of downtown Plainfield. They have been around since 2017, and use roasts from several countries across the world to make their coffee. The atmosphere inside is also rather cozy with the aesthetically pleasing decorations around the layout of the shop.

Pictured above, I tried a Vanilla latte, which was pretty good. I have also tried their Lumberjack latte, which had a more cinnamon-flavored taste. Among their long list of latte flavors, you can also expect to find Caramel, Hazelnut, Lavender, Peppermint, Coconut, Honey Bourbon, and more.

Their menu also consists of espressos, flat whites, cappuccinos, americanos, mochas, cold brew, apple cider, matcha, tea, and lemonade-based options. For food, they serve an array of sandwiches, bagels, toasts, salads, and pastries. To see a complete menu and business hours, click here

They are located at 24038 W Lockport Street in Plainfield, Illinois.

Los Mangos Mexican Ice Cream

Los Mangos is an ice cream shop that prides itself on the freshness of their product. They work hard to serve dozens of flavors of ice cream and a variety of different snacks to their customers. They boast their own recipes that they use to make their treats fresh every day.

Pictured above includes the Mangonadas, Strawberry ice cream, Oreolito, and Cheelote. The Cheelote was a combination of Hot Cheetos and elote, which was a new item when we went over the summer. Everything we tried was exceptional.

The menu consists of so much more than this. To name a few of the ice cream flavors, they offer Limon, Pina Colada, Mango, Chocolate Abuelita, Oreo, Strawberry Cheesecake, Pistachio, and many more.

They also offer many different cream-based and water-based paletas, which are liquid-based ice pops made with fresh ingredients. Some of these flavors include Choco Banana, Elote, Mazapan, Kiwi Strawberry, Cucumber, Bubblegum, and Vainilla. You can also be sure to find a variety of snacks and seasonal offerings. For a full view of the menu, click here.

They are located at 1701 N Larkin Avenue in Crest Hill, Illinois. They are open every day from 10 AM to 9 PM.
