Debbie Beal is the new director for the Center for SUCCESS at Saint Xavier University. Her first day on campus was Feb. 14.
Beal views herself as a coach and wants the SXU community to succeed in any way possible.
“I see my role in the Center for SUCCESS as a coach. I will lean on the core values of our institution to help every student be their best selves. It’s about encouraging students, helping them connect with the university and making sure they are aware and comfortable with the many resources that are available to assist them.”
The meaning of the Center for SUCCESS to Beal is, “an opportunity to help guide students to an academic path that they are passionate about and positively impact their future indefinitely through career and graduate school advising.”
Beal has many goals that she wishes to accomplish on campus. She believes that her role “will be continually changing and growing.”
Beal stated that her current goals right now are, “to provide a welcoming ‘home’ for undeclared and pre-clinical Nursing students, help in finding a major that is a great fit and continual support and encouragement until completion.
Beal continued, “Also, I want to be a top-notch career and graduate school resource for current students and alumni. To do this successfully, we need to be connecting with outside resources, faculty, and the many student support services that are available on campus.”
Beal’s plans for the Center for SUCCESS is to “create a vibrant space where all students, but particularly undeclared and pre-clinical nursing students, can connect and receive holistic advising and success coaching from our Academic and Career Resource Advisors.”
Aside from these plans, Beal also wants to see promotions and more light shed in other areas on campus.
“I also want to promote our food pantry, Champ’s Kitchen, and provide our students and alumni with best-practices in career advising, Graduate school applications and leadership development.”
Beal hopes to have an impact on the SXU community.
“My hope is that I can help provide additional direction and support to our fantastic Academic and Career Resource Advisors and improve collaboration between our office and the other services available on campus to better support our students.”
