Dean and Stancato with Big Weeks for SXU!

Both the Saint Xavier men’s and women’s track teams were back in action this past weekend, but competed in separate events. The women’s team competed in the Findlay University Classic women’s indoor track and field event in Findlay, Ohio on Friday, Jan. 25th and Saturday, Jan.26. In the women’s 800 meter run, sophomore Leslie Rosario, finished in third place for the Cougars with a time of 2:25.05.  In the 1000 meter run, senior Jackie Ott placed fifth with a time of 3:01.75.

After placing first place last week in the women’s 800 meter run, senior Rachael Dean finished second in the women’s one mile run with a time of 5:10.41. Senior Ashley Shares had another impressive week leading the way in the women’s 5000 meter run with a time of 18:14.04 and almost an entire minute lead over the second place finisher. In the women’s distance medley, two Saint Xavier teams finished in first and second place. The first place team consisted of freshman Ann Kolker, sophomore Anna Galvez, Ott, and Dean with a time of 12:35.06.  Finishing directly behind them with a time of 13:12.44 was Rosario, freshman Lexi McDermid, freshman Christa Pitts, and freshman Dana Martin.

The men’s team competed in the Titan Open, hosted by Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington. To start of the men’s races, sophomore John Stancato placed eighth in the men’s 60 meter dash with a time of 7.14.
Stancato later placed third in the men’s 200 meter dash with a time of 22.88. Junior Shane Kenney took seventh place in the men’s 400 meter dash with a time of 52.45. In the men’s 800 meter dash, sophomore Matt Krakowski finished in seventh place with a time of 2:03.79 and freshman Eric Hancock placed ninth with a time of 2:04.58.

This coming weekend, the SXU women’s track and field team will be competing at Wildcat Invitational in Marion Indiana hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University.The Saint Xavier University men’s track and field team will compete in the Parkside Classic in Kenosha, Wis., hosted by UW-Parkside. Both track teams will be ready to build on an already impressive season so far. The Cougars look to keep up their winning ways this weekend!
