Spoilers for “Deadpool and Wolverine” lie ahead…

After delays due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, set leaks via photos, and spoilers being shared on social media platforms, Marvel Studios’ and Shawn Levy’s newest film “Deadpool and Wolverine” finally hit the big screen on July 25th.

Overall, I would rate it a solid 7 on a scale of 10. Here’s why:

It was a Thursday night, 6:00 p.m., and the crowd hurried into their seats. The classic Marvel intro played, with very few clapping. However, I went into this film with “Hugh” expectations.

Within the first few minutes of the film, I had the realization that music would end up being incredibly impactful towards the scenes of the film. At that time, the audience cheered as “Bye Bye Bye” played while TVA agents were horrifically mutilated.

However, as the plot progressed, and the “Avengers’Theme” played for the first time, I pondered the question: “are we back to where we should be?” The Avengers haven’t assembled in what feels like forever, and the bill comes due soon. Fans are tired of Marvel’s lack of care.

Seeing countless Wolverines, though, felt right. A Wolverine portrayed by Henry Cavill, though? I honestly laughed this one off. I just couldn’t take it seriously.

Unlike the cheering crowd, who quite literally got out of their seats in glee, I was not surprised whatsoever that Chris Evans made an appearance as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch. “Free Guy,” a film also directed by Shawn Levy, featured a cameo from Evans as well.

Even more unsurprisingly, this member of the Fantastic Four shared another vile fate just like the Multiversal counterpart of Reed Richards in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.”

This time though, it wasn’t a suddenly-evil witch that killed a member of the four. It was an easily forgettable villain, Cassandra Nova. She didn’t really have a motivation for anything, was evil without a reason, yet awfully easy to give Deadpool and Wolverine a chance to live.

Something that I believe “Loki” failed to explore, though, was the possibilities of non-Loki life in the Void. I was extremely happy to see that characters such as Bullseye, Azazel, Toad, and Pyro had variants who were alive and well, at the time.

On that note, the Resistance was a perfect team. Seeing Wesley Snipes slowly pan across the screen as Blade was a true fanboy moment, and completely took me by surprise. Unfortunately, Elektra was revealed over a year ago and X-23 was revealed weeks prior, but finally seeing Channing Tatum as Gambit was well worth the long wait.

Tatum’s accent was on-point, but the costume was the real deal. Compared to “X-Men ‘97,” the suit is identical.

The send-off of the former Marvel heroes, though, was perfect. It has been years since the heroes were last seen on screen, but this was their final triumph.. Hearing Jimmy Durante’s “I’ll be Seeing You” actually made me tear up. It was a perfect moment, as they looked up in triumph and victory, just to be consumed by the beast of the Void without any regret.

The Deadpool Corps made me laugh. They were incredibly stupid yet funny, but I have a soft-spot for Cowboy Deadpool (Matthew McConaughey). Dogpool, aka Mary Puppins, was a delight to see, and I now own a Dogpool Funko Pop. Marketing works, folks.

The ending of the film features a reunited friend group, but this time featuring Wolverine, X-23, and Dogpool. Little does the average person know that there’s a big problem here.

It was confirmed that “Deadpool and Wolverine” takes place in 2024, in the same universe as “Logan.” However, “Logan” takes place in 2029…

Deadpool has made fun of the timelines being confusing before, and now it’s so much worse. It’s apparent that now there’s two Wolverine’s and two X-23’s living at the same time in that timeline.

Overall, this film was very fun, but has many issues. Ryan Reynolds proves day-by-day that he is hilarious, and Hugh Jackman puts on a very serious face for this role. However, one thing I will not complain about is the use of CGI. There’s definitely improvements here, but once more a use of a villain missing key character components.

“Deadpool and Wolverine” is currently still in theaters. The film is set to release on Disney+ by the end of the year.
