On April 20, the Cougar Dance Team will be holding tryouts for the 24-25 season. The tryouts will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the back gym of the Shannon Center and will be open to all SXU students.

Prior to the tryouts, there was a clinic held on April 16, and there will be another held on April 18. Both will happen from 6:30 p.m., to 9:30 p.m. in the dance studio located on the second floor of the Shannon Center.

Dancers must attend one of these clinics before tryouts.

On April 8, the SXU Dance Team made an Instagram post answering some questions those interested might have about tryouts. First, it is made know that dancers must attend one

Dancers should also have some prior experience before they attend tryouts. According to the post, they should be able to do “pirouettes, second turns, demo flexibility, leaps, calypso and switch arabesque” with time allowed for them to present any additional talents to the judges afterward.

During the clinics, athletes will be told what to expect during tryouts and will be given a routine to learn and perform during tryouts. The routine will consist of “jazz, hip-hop and pom technique.”

Elizabeth Geroge, a member of the dance team, spoke about her experience with dance and what those interested in the team can expect from tryouts.

“Someone who not only loves to dance, and has a passion for dance, but just wants to improve and wants to be better from where they’re at coming to the team,” George described.

“Even if you’re not sure I say go regardless,” George said. She also advised that those that do go to the tryouts should bring water.
