Love songs are a dime a dozen. Just about every artist ever has written at least one song about love. However, sometimes those love songs just do not sound right and they end up being insanely creepy and stalker anthems. Here are just a few of the many creepy love songs in existence.
The Police: “Every Breath You Take”
Whenever someone thinks about a creepy love song, typically the first song to pop into their mind is this one. “Every breath you take/Every move you make/…I’ll be watching you”. Wait, what? If this is meant to be romantic, The Police have clearly failed miserably. “Oh you can’t see me/You belong to me” are things that only a serious stalker would say. This is not the kind of stalker that just sits outside your window at night, this guy is following you everywhere, you cannot see him, and he thinks you are an object. How romantic?
Death Cab For Cutie: “I Will Possess Your Heart”
I suppose coming from a band called “Death Cab for Cutie”, you cannot really expect romantic, spill your heart out kind of love songs. “I Will Possess Your Heart” is a great example of this anti-romance. At first, the song seems alright and not too terribly creepy. It just seems like a guy that is trying to get a girl to give him a chance. However, it gets creepy…really creepy. “You reject my advances and desperate pleas/I won’t let you…let me down so easily”. Hey, guy, no means no. I am pretty sure if someone is repeatedly rejecting you, it is time for you to just let it go. This song takes a bad turn from a mediocre love song to a serious threat in no time. Maybe this was not meant to be a love song after all…
Milow: “You and Me”
This song is not just creepy, but also incredibly weird. I will give you just a taste, but to get the full effect of how odd this song is, you will need to look it up for yourself. The creepiest lines in the song are as follows: “I wish you were a little slower/Not just slow but paralyzed/Then I could plug you into a socket/So you could never run away”. Apparently, Milow is not into someone that can reciprocate love physically since he just wants this person to sit there PARALYZED so that he/she will never leave him. Also, earlier in the song, he wants his lover to be so fat that they can no longer fit through the door… I am starting to think this song is less about love and more about having complete control over another human being. Maybe he will at least bring her some flowers and chocolates on Valentine’s Day.
Imogen Heap: “Goodnight and Go”
At first this song does not come off as creepy, it seems as though she is just admiring a cute guy. However, it turns out she is actually just stalking this guy often and knows his whole routine: “Follow you home, you’ve got your headphones on and you’re dancing/Got lucky, beautiful shot you taking everything off …/Then you fall in the same routine…/And you think you’re alone”. As you can see, girls can be just as creepy as any old “peeping Tom”. The greatest part is that she blames him for being so attractive and personable. How could you expect her to resist that?
There you have it, some of the creepiest love songs ever. So, next time you make a romantic mixtape for someone, be sure to avoid these songs…or don’t and see how that works out for you.
