There are only 15 days left until Halloween. I know that some people may need some encouragement to get stay on top of Halloween-related things, so I am still going to be breaking things down, week by week.
These are not orders but (very strong) suggestions, so if you don’t want to do what I’m suggesting, feel free to do otherwise.
Costumes
So you should know what you want to be by now. You’ve had quite a while to think about it, and now is the time to take action.
You can go the Party City route and just buy your costume and accessories, but I would highly suggest that you try to make your own.
First of all, make a list of EVERYTHING you will need for your costume (the main costume, shoes, make-up, hair products, accessories, etc.).
From there, start thinking of how you can get these things? Do you already have an old white shirt you aren’t afraid of getting a little bit bloody for your zombie get-up? Perfect. You don’t have to go out and buy everything on your list if you already have it.
You should at least start making a battle plan for where you are going to get these things, and keep in mind if you are going to a costume store for anything, the soon you go the better.
Parties
So you’ve picked your day and time by now. Now it is time to start working on a guest list. That shouldn’t be too hard to do, so I’ll trust you to know how to make a guest list.
After that, think of the stuff you want to do at your party.
Do you want to roast hot dogs? Play ghosts in the graveyard? Bob for apples? You will want to start gathering supplies now (but make sure if you are getting food it won’t expire, or you may want to wait another week to get it).
It is surprisingly hard to find a good apple bobbing bucket on short notice, so don’t be stuck with a bunch of apples and no giant bucket the night of your party.
Decorating
So you’ve already got your smaller decorations up now. Awesome. It’s time to move onto the bigger stuff, such as jack o lanterns. When you head to your favorite pumpkin patch (or home depot parking lot) have an ideal pumpkin in mind.
Then, when you see it, make sure you run dramatically in slow motion towards it. For an extra special effect, hire a string quartet to play romantic music as you tenderly embrace your pumpkin.
After that, once you’ve taken your pumpkin home, rip its guts out and cut its body open in festive patterns. If you can’t stand the thought of hurting your beloved pumpkin like that, you could also just paint it.
Things to watch
Now that you’ve watched Ghostbusters many, many times, it is time to start watching another Halloween classic, Hocus Pocus. This movie has it all. Great plot, great casting, and a great musical number by Bette Midler.
I know most of my peers can quote this movie in their sleep, so they already know why this is a must, but for those of you have not seen it, I do recommend it on behalf of those of us who have.
I promise it will not run amok (amok, amok, amok, amok), and it is sure to put a spell on you.
Music to play
I have one word for you: “Thriller.” How could you not love this quintessential zombie song, especially one with such neat dance moves?
If you start watching the video now, you should be able to do a great zombie dance by Halloween.
