Saint Xavier University’s women’s basketball team encountered Roosevelt University on SXU Senior Night at the Shannon Center on Wednesday, February 15.
SXU came out victorious in a crucial match as they approach the end of the regular season. The final score ended 89-64.
SXU’s overall record moves to 20-7 and their conference record moves to 16-3. They are in a 3-horse race for second place in the CCAC standings.
Senior guard Maia Fawcett came through with 19 points, nine rebounds, two assists, and four steals. Fawcett is the 13th player at SXU to reach 300+ assists, as she has now dished out 301.
Senior forward Claire Austin chipped in with seventeen points, nine rebounds, and three assists. She finished the game shooting six for seven from the floor.
Freshman guard Jaidn Green registered eleven points off the bench with five assists and one block on the defensive end.
Sophomore guard Aaliyahna Derrell showed her ability to make plays, ending the game with a team-high five assists.
Senior guard Alyssa Streeter ended up with ten points, four rebounds, and one assist.
In just ten minutes of play, Freshman center Eleanor Harris put up seven points and six rebounds.
The Cougars shot very well as a team. They attempted seventy-one shots from the floor and connected with thirty-five of them, leaving them at 49.3%
SXU did not shoot well from downtown, however. Out of twenty-one, they made three, only shooting 14.3 % from three-point land.
SXU will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 18, and will take on fifth place team

SXU saw defeat on the road as they lost by a nine-point deficit with a final score of 95-86.
This was the last game of the regular season for the Cougars. They finished in fourth place in the conference with a 16-4 record.
Senior forward Claire Austin ended the regular season with a dominant stat line of twenty-six points, fourteen rebounds, four assists, and four steals.
Right behind her was guard Alyssa Streeter who recorded fifteen points in twenty-eight minutes of play.
Sophomore forward Sofie Carr registered eleven points, two assists, two rebounds, and three blocks off the bench.
The Cougars shot extremely well from the field despite the loss, shooting 57.4% on seventy-one attempted shots by landing thirty-five of them.
SXU shot thirteen threes from behind the arc and made five (38.5%).
The Cougars did have trouble with turning the ball over. Saint Xavier finished the game with twenty-eight turnovers which led to Olivet Nazarene capitalizing on the offensive end.
Now that the Cougars have ended their regular season, they will play in the CCAC quarter-finals. The game will take place on Wednesday, February 22 against University of Saint Francis in Joliet, Illinois with tip-off scheduled for 7pm.
