Cougars Split Two Game Stretch Ahead of Final Three Games

Posted on October 17, 2026

Senior Goalkeeper Natalie Dybas at Deaton Field                                                                                                                                   SXU Athletics

After going 1-1 against the Indiana University at South Bend (IUSB) Titans and the Indiana University Northwest (IUN) Redhawks, the Saint Xavier University (SXU) women’s soccer team have set themselves in a great spot as the season comes down to its final three games.

On Oct. 10, the Cougars were able to extend their winning streak to a season high of four games in their win against IUSB. SXU managed to score four goals while not conceding a single one.

IUSB was able to keep a red-hot Cougars offense off the board for most of the first half, but when a team is rolling like SXU it’s hard to keep them quiet for long.

In minute 38, junior midfielder Keira Cambell got the scoring started with her fifth goal of the season. It wouldn’t take too long for the Cougars to double their lead thanks to a goal from junior forward Cami Butler, her sixth, in minute 40.

Campbell would connect for her second goal of the game just five minutes into the second half, adding some early insurance for SXU.

The fourth and final goal and ultimately the dagger would come from sophomore midfielder Angelica Flores in minute 64 thanks to an assist from senior forward Alex Jonaitis. For Flores, it was her first goal of the season and for Jonaitis, it was her fifth assist in 2026.

Senior goalkeeper Natalie Dybas, who was named Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) women’s soccer defensive player of the week on Oct. 12, followed that honor with yet another strong outing, this time recording 11 saves on 11 shots on goal.

On Oct. 13, SXU would have their winning streak snapped and suffer their first loss in the CCAC: 5-2 against Indiana Northwest.

The Cougars would face a gut punch in their first half as they saw their winning streak be put in jeopardy after conceding three goals in the first half.

SXU went on and tried to spark some kind of miraculous comeback in the second half when Butler connected for her seventh goal of the season in minute 57, but the Redhawks responded with two more goals of their own.

In minute 85, senior midfielder Alexzia Garcia was able to score her first goal of the season to cut the deficit to two but at this point the game was out of reach for the Cougars.

During these two games SXU managed to bring their season goal total to 32 and goals per game average to 2.46, both of which are third best in the CCAC. On the defensive side, Dybas now has 104 saves on the year which is also third best in the CCAC.

SXU will now head to Elgin, Ill. to take on sixth place Judson University on Oct. 21 at 1:30 p.m.

Only three games remain in the regular season, and the Cougars sit in third place in the CCAC standings with much still left to play for. Where will the Cougars end up when the final whistle blows? Only time will tell.
