Cougars Set Records at ONU Open

The Saint Xavier Cougars competed in the Olivet Nazarene University Tiger Open on April 23. No team scores were recorded, but two Cougar runners broke SXU records at the meet.

The Cougars are nearing the end of their regular season competition as the CCAC Outdoor Championships are drawing near. The CCAC meet is scheduled to start on Thursday, May 5, in Joliet, IL, and finishes on Saturday, May 7.

Senior, Keeley Leary, set the school record while competing in the 400m with a time of 58.97 seconds.

Freshman, Ambyer Maree Derrick, broke the program record in the High Jump with a height of 1.59m.

Leary placed 6th in the 400m and Derrick finished fifth overall in the High Jump.

On top of the school and program records, three Cougar runners set personal records at the ONU Open.

Freshman, Jamaya Jenkins, established a personal record in the 100m Dash with a time of 12.56 seconds. Jenkins would finish sixth in the 100m Dash.

Freshman Rakiya Lawrence and Leary also set personal records in the 200m Dash. Lawrence posted a 27.39 seconds and Leary crossed the finish line with a time of 27.51 seconds.

Senior, Karen Dorantes, ran in the 5000m, finishing in second place with a time of 20:41.75.

Sophomore Joclyn Ordonez competed in the 5000m Race Walk, placing third overall with a time of 35:34.37.

Saint Xavier had two runners in the 400 Hurdles finals, Juniors Lana Musa and Victoria Dolbniak. Musa came in second with a time of 1:08.64, while Dolbniak finished in sixth place with a time of 1:13.36.

In the 4×100 Relay, the SXU team of Lawrence, Jenkins, and freshmen Amia Harrison and Olivia Bundy, set a school record with a time of 49.11 seconds, finishing in third place.

The Cougars ran two teams in the 4×400 Relays, both squads placing in the top five.

Squad A consisting of: Lawrence, Musa, senior Jocelyn Olayo, and freshman Kristen Booker, finished in third with a time of 4:14.16. Squad B consisting of: Jenkins, Dolbniak, junior Rachel Parsons, and sophomore Nayely Martinez placed fifth, with a time of 4:32.98.

Freshman Valerie Holland placed 10th in the Shot Put finals but posted a personal record with a throw of 10.21m.

Holland PR’d in the Discus with a toss of 33.25m. She also recorded her second-best throw of the season in the Javelin with a distance of 27.39m.

The Cougars have one more meet before the CCAC championships. They will be competing in the ONU Invitational, on April 30.
