Saint Xavier University’s women’s basketball team improved to 4-0 in the season after another dominating performance on Wednesday, November 16. Junior guard Kara Krolicki finished with a game-high 30 points to help lead the Cougars past Trinity International, 102-62.
The women built a healthy 58-31 lead through the first two quarters thanks in large part to Krolicki’s hot hand from behind the arch. The sharp-shooting junior finished 7-of-10 from three and 11-for-14 from the field to go along with her five assists, two steals, and two rebounds.
A comfortable lead for the Cougars allowed Coach Bob Hallberg to empty his bench. Players like Tomei Ball, Sami Pawlak and Cora Graffeo saw extended minutes. Sarah Vozel, who suffered a serious ACL injury last season, is easing her way back into regular playing time.
Vozel provides value in the Cougars’ front court in terms of scoring, defense, and rebounding while also creating opportunities for center Brittany Collins. Collins, who was named CCAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, followed up her career game against Davenport with another impressive performance.
The junior center finished with eleven points, six rebounds, two blocks, and two steals in 19 minutes of playing time against the Trojans of TIU. Collins has a total of 35 points and 18 rebounds over her last two contests.
The good news continues to flow for the Cougars, as freshman guard Maddie Welter should be healthy enough to play on Saturday when Saint Xavier faces conference opponent Indiana University-South Bend. Welter injured her ankle early in the game against Davenport, but coach Hallberg believes the injury should not keep her out of action for more than one contest.
The Cougars are averaging a crisp 100 points scored per game to this point of the 2016-17 season and have not put up less than 93 yet on the year. Saint Xavier looks to continue the high scoring trend on Saturday at 1:00 PM at the Shannon Center.
