SXU vs. Roosevelt University: 70-52 (W)
The Cougars looked strong against the Roosevelt Lakers on Wednesday, Feb. 7, collecting yet another double-digit victory.
Scoring against the Lakers was led by sophomore guard Jaidn Green, who finished with 21 points on 9-13 (69.2%) shooting. This was the third game this season Green has scored 20-plus. Her final statline also included four assists and two steals.
Although most of the game was tightly contested on offense, the first quarter set the Cougars far apart from Roosevelt.
In the first, SXU jumped out to a great 10-0 lead, setting the tone early, but it was their defense that shined by not allowing a basket until the 3:24 minute, holding a 15-3 lead.
Senior guard Bethany Baldwin guided the Saint Xavier offense in the first with six points. Baldwin finished the game with 16 points, eight rebounds, and a steal.
In the second quarter, the Cougars extended their lead to 31-8 with just over seven minutes left, but RU managed to find their stride and finished the half on a 10-19 run.
The Cougars entered the second half with a comfortable 41-27 lead and just needed to keep the Roosevelt offense at bay to secure the win.
SXU outscored the Lakes 13-12 in the third and 16-13 in the fourth, enough to hold onto their lead and move up in CCAC standings.
