Cougars Dominate Trinity International for Sixth Win in a Row

This past Saturday was a great day for the SXU Football team, a 35-6 blow out win over Trinity International University. The Cougars’ sixth win in a row helped bring the team’s national ranking to 11 in the NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll.

In addition to a huge team win, junior defensive back, Ron Carroll, was awarded MSFA Midwest Defensive Player of the week. Carroll returned two interceptions for touchdowns against TIU, the first MSFA player to do so since 1995.

Standouts this week for SXU came on both sides of the ball.

On offense, senior wide receiver, Justin Pringle, had eight catches for 140 yards, averaging 17.6 yards per catch, and a career high three touchdowns.

Freshman running back, Mario Price, led the Cougars with 74 rushing yards, with a long of 39.

On defense, Terry Elias, Ayobami Arokoyo, and Juabarey Anderson each had one sack, totaling 29 yards.

In the first quarter the Cougars offense got to work right away with a touchdown on their first possession of the game.started off with two passing touchdowns from junior quarterback, Stuart Ross, to Pringle.

In the second quarter Carroll intercepted a pass and took it to the house from seventy three yards out.

SXU secured a considerable lead at the end of the first half, a 21-0 advantage over the Trojans.

10 minutes into the third quarter, Trinity scored a touchdown after 21 unanswered Cougar points.

Trojans kicker, Brian Najar, missed the extra point following the touchdown and that would be Trinity’s only score of the game.

Later in the third, Ross once again connected with Pringle for 39 yards to pile onto their lead, further stretching the score to 28-6.

In the fourth quarter, Carroll had his second interception of the game. He scored from six yards out to make the score 35-6.

Carroll’s stellar defense made him the first player in SXU Football history to return two interceptions for touchdowns in a single game. Along with that, Carroll had six tackles and a pass breakup on his statline.

The support on both sides of the ball helped secure the Cougars’ first time all season scoring 30 plus points in back-to-back games.

The Cougars play their last away game, against Judson University, on Saturday at 3pm in Streamwood, IL.
