The Cougars found themselves competing in the Chicagoland Outdoor Championships at Louis University in Romeoville last Friday and Saturday, April 5 , and 6th. Although the meet overall did not go as well as the Cougars had hoped it would, there were some very good individual outings at the event.
For the women, a group of seniors that faired very well in the events, senior Jackie Ott competed in the women’s 800 meter run and finished in ninth place with a time of 2:26.22. In the women’s 1,500 meter run, senior Rachael Dean placed fifth with a time of 5:02.29 barely edging out St. Francis’ Brooke Johnson who finished sixth with a time of 5:02.30.
Senior Ashley Shares was right back at it again placing second in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 37:41.77. In the women’s 8×400 meter relay, the team of seniors Ott and Dean, junior Leslie Rosario, and freshman Christa Pitts placed second overall with a time of 9:32.21. The women ended up placing 14th out of 22 teams competing.
For the men, sophomore John Stancato finished in eighth place for the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.48. Junior Shane Kenney placed 12th in the 800 meter dash with a time of 1:58.70.
Junior Brian Corcoran finished tenth in the 5,000 meter run in a time of 15:20.76.
In the men’s 10,000 meter run, junior Chris Shellenberger placed fifth with a time of 32:41.20. Another pair of Cougars finished right behind Shellenberger, in junior Chris Sarna who placed seventh in the event with a time of 32:57.36, and right behind Sarna was freshman Eric Hancock who placed eighth with a time of 32:58.85.
In the men’s 400 meter hurdles, sophomore Dan Spencer finished sixth with a time of 58.74. Finally in the 4×100 meter relay, the team of junior Nick Pesek, sophomores Tyler Hoeg and Stancato along with freshman Ben Tracy finished seventh with a time of 44.28.
The men finished 15th out of 22.
Good job to all of the Cougars that competed in the Chicagoland Championships! The next event for the Cougars is this Saturday, April 13th. They will be competing in the Eagle Invitational at Benedictine University in Lisle.
