The Cougars had a big week of wins against two conference opponents before the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Tournament begins on April 1.
On March 22, Saint Xavier was matched up against Olivet Nazarene University at the Shannon Center.
SXU swept ONU on their ‘Senior Night’ in three straight sets, winning 25-8, 29-27, and 25-20.
Sophomore opposite hitter, Shane Ooms, led the Cougars in kills (13) and digs (seven).
Senior setter—Joe Lock—delivered 27 assists, a match high, as well as recording five digs, two service aces, a block, and a kill.
The following Thursday, March 24, would wrap up the Cougars regular season against CCAC opponent, Lincoln College.
Saint Xavier also hosted ‘Leukemia Awareness Night’ preceding the game. The team honored junior setter, Cameron Petrusevski, who won his battle with acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) just over a year ago.
Petrusevski powered the Cougars to their three-set sweep over Lynx, with a career-best of 33 assists and five kills. He also tied his career high in blocks with two.
Freshman outside hitter, Kegan Olig, also had himself a big game, leading SXU with 11 kills on a .500 attack percentage.
The win against Lincoln earned the Cougars a bye in the first round of the CCAC tournament. The semifinal games are scheduled for 5p and 7p on April 1, and the championship game is scheduled for April 2, at 1p.
