Saint Xavier University football extended their winning streak to seven games over the weekend following a gigantic win over Judson University.
The Cougars defeated Judson (1-7) with an offensive explosion for a final score of 52-6.
Honestly, Judson didn’t stand a chance against Saint Xavier. From start to finish, the Cougars completely dominated on both sides of the ball.
Despite the offense turning the ball over three times, the defense had their backs.
Cougar defense held JU to just 138 passing yards and a measly 26 rushing yards.
SXU’s offense totaled 486 yards on the day. The longest play being a 65-yard running touchdown from sophomore running back, Jessi Plunkett.
Junior quarterback, Stuart Ross, finished the game with 197 passing yards, as well as a rushing touchdown.
Junior wide receiver, Kyle Quinn, led SXU with 87 receiving yards and a touchdown, but five other Cougar receivers got in on the offensive action as well.
Four Cougars ran the ball for touchdowns, but junior running back, Amari Venerable, led the pack with 77 gained yards.
The game started off with a bang when senior wide receiver, Justin Pringle, had a 95-yard kickoff return touchdown to go up 7-0 in under the first minute of the game.
The Cougars scored twice more in the first quarter with the help from Ross to Quinn for a seven-yard passing touchdown.
With just under a minute and a half left in the first quarter, Venerable piled on to the early onslaught of offense with a six yard running touchdown.
The Cougars entered the second quarter up 21-0.
In the second quarter, Judson finally got on the board with a passing touchdown, making it 21-6.
The Eagles hoped to start chipping away at the deficit, but those hopes were quickly diminished when Isaiah Carillo’s extra point attempt was blocked by junior defensive end, Kevin Sandoval.
Judson fell further and further back as the game progressed, and any optimism of a comeback was quickly squashed.
Late in the second, SXU came up with an interception from sophomore defensive back, Bruce Pendelton III, which he returned for a 25-yard touchdown.
Junior kicker, Peyton Benes, nailed a 33-yard field goal at the end of the half to tack on another three points.
Saint Xavier was up 31-6 headed into the second half.
Ross started up the offense again during the Cougars’ first possession of the third quarter. He scored on a one-yard touchdown run that was followed by another Benes extra-point, SXU now leading 38-6.
Later on that quarter, the Cougars scored again with a rushing touchdown from 16 yards out by junior quarterback, John O’Sullivan, making the score 45-6.
Saint Xavier provided the only offense in the fourth quarter.
Plunkett capped the scoring with a massive, 65-yard rushing touchdown, followed by the extra point, to put the Cougars up 52-6.
On top of the great win, Pringle was named the MFSA Midwest League Special Teams player of the week for his 95-yard kick return touchdown.
The Cougars have just two more games left on their schedule before playoffs, both are home games. They will take on Saint Ambrose University this Saturday (11/5), at Deaton Field, with kickoff scheduled for 1p.
