Los Dioses, “The Gods,” is a collaborative album released by Reggeaton artists, Ozuna and Anuel AA. Which has made quite the impression amongst the Latinx community. Especially after facing the massive repercussions the COVID-19 pandemic has sprung onto those in the music industry, these two artists definitely utilized their creativity during quarantine. Although Ozuna and Anuel AA have had their own successes, their collaboration was no surprise. They have collaborated on projects in the past, therefore making this collaboration album expected.
Anuel AA and Ozuna constantly face the pressures of the music industry with their highly successful competitions, Bad Bunny and J Balvin. These two artists took the world by storm when they released their collaboration album “OASIS” almost two years ago. Bad Bunny and J Balvin gave collaboration albums in the Reggaeton industry a new meaning, and set the bar pretty high for any future reggaeton collaboration that plans on surfacing.
Amidst the backlash Ozuna and Anuel AA have faced in the past, “Los Dioses” may have been a comeback for them, considering the multiple issues they have faced in the industry. For example, Anuel AA has been “cancelled” for making homophobic comments towards Bad Bunny for dressing as a woman in his “Yo Perreo Sola” music video. While, Ozuna on the other hand has “died down” in the industry and some fans have noticed his older music does not compare to what he has recently released. “Los Dioses” granted these two artists the chance to redeem themselves and to show what they have left to offer.
The first song on the album is titled, you guessed it: “Los Dioses”. They wasted no time referring to themselves as “Gods.” Although that may not be the way they are perceived from the public eye. Anuel AA kicks off the album by saying “I want to use this moment, from the bottom of my heart to say that I apologize… to absolutely no one!” Which sets an aggressive and egoistic tone for the rest of the album. They refer to themselves as untouchable beings and basically insinuate that no one amounts to them in the industry and in general.
With upbeat tempos, trap and mellowed out vibes, “Los Dioses” takes listeners on a rollercoaster of emotions. Such as in “Contra El Mundo,” which means “Against the world”, this song emphasizes that neither of them would want to take on conflicts with anyone else besides their romantic partner. In “Perfecto,” they once again let their guard down by expressing the pain they caused another person due to their toxicity. Ozuna and Anuel AA have a soft spot deep down, amidst the aggressive tone the album exhibits. They still found room to let those vulnerable emotions flourish.
Partying with friends seems to be what everyone is lacking right now, the urge to go out and enjoy a night out is what most of us have been waiting for. Ozuna and Anuel AA brought a sense of nostalgia from the club in “Perreo,” “Nena Buena,” and “Antes.” Even though fans would most likely be dancing to these hits in the comfort of their own home, it grants listeners the hope of being able to go out once again, and maintaining the urge to dance and have fun for the time being.
The Reggeaton industry is constantly making big moves and history with the talented artists it contains. “Los Dioses” takes a trip into the minds of Ozuna and Anuel AA Amidst the repercussions they have faced in the industry, they still found a place for themselves. They are making their own history and expressing the creativity they have within.
