Chelsea Dagger has been blasting from the speakers at the United Center since the 2008 season. After the song was released in 2006, the Chicago Blackhawks quickly added the song, and stuck with it after their amazing run in their 2010 Championship . Although most Hawks fans love the song, many other teams and fans may refer to it as annoying to say the least.
Many teams, who travel to Chicago to play the Hawks often, may hear the song way more than they would like. Hearing the song played again, and again after the opposing team just embarrassed your goalie sounds pretty terrible.
After a long playoff battle between the Canucks and Blackhawks, Kevin Bieska referred to it as “The worst song in hockey”. But really, it’s hard to blame Bieska, hearing the loud, and obnoxious screaming of the Fratelis can get a little old after a while. Superstar Henrick Sedin was also asked about the song, and referred to it as “bad memories”.
The Fratelis can only be happy about the popularity of the song in Chicago. In an interview with ESPN Chicago, Jon Frateli explained how he has never been to an American sporting event, let alone a hockey game. He says how he likes the aggressiveness of
the sport, and would love to come to a game just to play the song.
The song doesn’t just provide enthusiasm to the players, but it mentally affects the players on the team, from annoying repetition. In the perspective of an NHL player, one of the worst things you can possibly hear is the loud “Do do do, do do do” from the speakers at the madhouse.
Although I am not personally a Hawks fan, I still believe that the song definitely provides a big impact to every player on the ice. In 2007, right when the Blackhawks picked up the song, the song went up to number seventy-seven on the Rolling Stones top one hundred songs of 2007. Over the years, it has
been obvious that Chelsea Dagger has made a huge impact on not only the Blackhawks organization, but also the entire NHL.
