Calling it a Migrant Facility Does Not Mean it’s Not a Cage, President Biden

The Biden administration recently opened its first migrant facility for children. Biden and his administration have received much criticism for this decision. Personally, I am extremely upset with President Biden’s decision because I found it quite hypocritical

The migrant facility is simply reopening. This facility was opened for a month under the Trump administration and was the source of many protests and controversy. To me, it seems to be incredibly hypocritical of President Biden to reopen a facility that was heavily criticized during the Trump administration.

These emergency shelters had hazardous conditions for people to stay in, as well as the cost and “lack of transparency in their operations,” as stated by The Washington Post.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was one of those who immediately spoke out against President Biden’s decision. In a tweet, Ocasio-Cortez said, “This is not okay, never has been okay, never will be okay – no matter the administration or party.” I have to say I was happy to see someone from the Democratic party openly showing their disapproval for the migrant facility.

As a registered Democrat, I had full faith that President Biden would win the election in November 2020. However, I do not have to agree with or approve every decision he makes, especially with opening a migrant facility.

The Biden administration claims that the conditions in these facilities will be better and that they are no longer separating children from their parents, but who’s to say that is the truth? I hope that what the Biden administration is saying is the truth, but I do not know for sure.

I find it interesting that President Biden is calling them “migrant facilities.” I think you can call them that, but it does not mean kids are not being locked in cages still.

I am aware that hundreds of children are alone and scared and need to be reunited with their parents. I would love to know what action President Biden is taking to reunite the kids with their families.

It is also important to note that the cages were built during the Obama administration, despite many believing that Trump had done so. I find that President Biden’s duty is to right his wrongs and ensure no more children are being separated from their parents.

One of the most significant issues in the United States is that many Republicans and Democrats seem to blindly follow their party’s political leader. Although I am a Democrat, I believe it is my responsibility to hold political leaders accountable for their actions. I will hold President Biden to the same standards as I did with Trump, if not higher.
