Valentines Day decor in Burrito Jalisco The Xavierite
The restaurant scene surrounding Saint Xavier University (SXU) is impressive in its diversity and extensiveness. One night after class, I decided I had a taste for tacos and wanted to find a solid place near campus that would satisfy not only my hunger, but my joy for restaurants with a warm welcome and aesthetic appeal. That is when I stumbled upon Burrito Jalisco.
Burrito Jalisco is a Mexican restaurant in Alsip, Illinois, sitting just over three miles from the university campus. Upon looking at pictures and seeing the distance, I knew this was a place I had to try.
As I pulled in, the outside looked incredibly promising. Burrito Jalisco is quite a sight at night, with nice lights outside and a sidewalk wrapping around the front.
When I entered the restaurant, I was greeted and sat immediately with no reservation needed. I also noticed that the restaurant had recently been decorated with a teddy bear at the entrance and lights, hearts, and roses throughout for the upcoming Valentines Day holiday. It was a nice touch that made for an inviting atmosphere and a place that would be perfect for any sort of celebration.
We were given waters and chips with two salsas, mild and spicy, as we looked over the menu to prepare to order.
The menu features appetizer options of Guacamole, Pico de Gallo, a Shrimp Grande Quesadilla, and more. I decided to try the Guacamole, which did not disappoint. It was entirely gone by the time we left.
For food options, Burrito Jalisco’s menu offers a range of Tamales, Burritos, Quesadillas, Tostadas, Tortas, and Tacos. For traditional dinners, they have several options, one example being their Chiles Rellenos Con Queso, which is described to include an egg battered poblano pepper stuffed with cheese and their mild sauce, which can be substituted for hot sauce when ordering.
They also have various steaks, empanadas, raw oysters, and seafood dinner options. Some additional menu details worth noting are their breakfast options and their desserts, which include Pastel de Tres Leches, Flan, and more. You can even find garlic bread and fries on the menu if you are looking for a variety of sides.
Needless to say, we were overwhelmed with a list of amazing-sounding options.
For this trip, I ended up ordering a Pollo Taco dinner with two corn tacos. These dinners particularly come with rice and beans. I ended up doing double rice, but was still able to try the beans as well.

As pictured, the tacos came with the chicken, lettuce, cheese, cilantro, tomato, and limes on the side. They also typically have onions, but I ordered mine without.
The tacos were absolutely loaded with food and it was delicious. If I were to reorder, the only thing about them I would change would be ordering Pico de Gallo on them or on the side.
The only underwhelming part of the meal was the rice. I did not end up finishing that, and actually enjoyed the beans a bit more.
The highlight of the meal would have to be the Guacamole, as it was gone within seconds.
It is also worth noting I wish I had gone more out of my comfort zone and tried one of their dishes that I have never had before. The menu is pretty extensive, so I do look forward to my next visit and exploring these other options and possibly a dessert.
