A weekly Breast Cancer Awareness campaign is being hosted during the month of October. In addition, a blood drive was taken place on Wednesday October 19th at the student lounge. Both of these events were organized by SXU’s TriBeta Biological Honor Society.

TriBeta is the National Biological Honor Society. Students majoring or minoring in Biology are eligible for membership.

The Xavierite spoke with TriBeta’s treasurer, Suzy Reyes about these events. “We are a service organization. That’s why we had our blood drive, we do food drives. We have a lot of service events but, in addition to these events we also have sort of fun events.”

Every Wednesday (and one Thursday) of October TriBeta has organized an event in the biology wing to raise awareness for Breast Cancer Awareness. During these days, a table is set up with informational flyers. Berry punch is offered and nail polish for nail painting. All the decoration is colored pink to follow the theme.

The blood drive took place on Wednesday October 19th. According to Reyes, there was over a hundred donors in total. “The blood drive was a one-day event that we have been planning for a little while and we were thrilled with the turnout . . . I’m so excited how everyone was there,” said Reyes.

Reyes added that another blood drive will be planned for next semester. She hope to have the same successful turnout as this one.

Next Wednesday October 26th will be the last day of TriBeta’s weekly Breast Cancer Awareness campaign. In addition, they will be hosting a Halloween bake sale in the diner on October 31st at 11 am.
