Here’s a little background about myself. I am black and I don’t identify with any particular political party.
I am telling you this to say that black conservatism has become a personality trait among younger black people and they are gathering in droves.
I don’t think this is the worst thing because it goes to show that every black person doesn’t think alike and every black person hasn’t been raised the same way.
The problem is the division and tension this continues to create within the black community. The fact that we aren’t all raised in the same conditions doesn’t mean they should be discredited and overlooked.
Media outlets taking the “they’re trying to be white and impress the white man” approach. It’s going to get clicks and views. Fine whatever…
I personally don’t think black conservatives want to be white. I think they genuinely feel they’ve been exploited by the Democratic Party.
When one side of the spectrum isn’t working, people tend to connect the other side in an extreme fashion. Identifying as a conservative and putting on a MAGA (Make America Great Again) hat gives them a new found confidence/voice they felt they didn’t have.
I do think some black people are wearing a MAGA hat for clout and social media followers. I do think some black conservatives believe they are smarter, or better than other black people. I don’t think this applies to all black people though.
Unfortunately, this comes at a time when there’s an idiot in office. So for those who try to separate themselves from some of his moral beliefs and promote his pro-rich policies, you can’t.
Another problem black conservatives unveil is the continued support and fight for a system that wasn’t created for black people to be a part of or feel accepted.
It’s no secret our political system was created by white men and was originally supposed to only support white men. So the constant bickering back and forth between black people about which political party has their best interest in hand is foolish.
Rapper and producer Sean Combs hosted a political conference with a mixed panel of rappers, activists and rappers/activists through his revolt platform. People like Killer Mike, T.I, Candence Owens, and Tamika D. Mallory sat on the panel.
In the midst of Candence Owens and T.I going back and forth on the topic of the current president’s campaign, Killer Mike stepped in with some enlightening words to summarize the debate.
Killer Mike stated “What y’all are seeing right now is free people arguing over who has the best master.”
This got me thinking about the bigger picture and how as black people we continue to contribute to this cycle that is the American political system.
We have to acknowledge, as black people, that one way or another we’re going to have to take the good from both ends of the spectrum and determine a plan that will benefit the black community.
This is not a “Batman signal” to every black person in America. I don’t have a plan and I don’t have the answers.
I do understand that there a bigger problem surrounding our community than black people wanting to be conservatives and this uprising is exposing it.
