Athlete Spotlight: Romisha Taylor

Q: What are your thoughts on the season so far?

A: I feel like we had a very slow start and our chemistry was not really there yet. Slowly but surely our better practices turned into better games.

Q: You have beaten some pretty tough opponents this year in Olivet (Ill.), Morningside (Iowa) and Saint Francis (Ind.) among others; what does that mean for you guys to be able to beat these top teams?

A: That means that rankings mean nothing. Anybody can be beaten on any given day. We played the No. 3 team that was supposed to be one of the best teams in the nation and they only had one loss. We blew them out by 15 and everybody scored so that means that nobody is unbeatable.

Q: Where does this team’s chemistry rank among the teams you have played on?

A: It is probably one of the top. I started as a freshman and this year I feel like I am in a leader role and I can be in charge and I could tell people where they need to go and I feel like I am actually essential to this team in being a leader.

Q: What are your expectations for the rest of the year?

A: I want to win it all. We have already proven that we can have slow starts, but it is not about how you start it is about how you finish. We have won second half games all of the time so I just want to go as far as I can.

Q: Who is the toughest coach you have had?

A: Oh my gosh, coach Hallberg. I have played with only one other coach. He is so hard to read where one minute he will say that you’re not supposed to shoot and then you’ll hit a three and he will say to keep shooting. I never know what he is thinking and I never know what he wants. I would just rather do it and then hear him holler afterwards.
Q: Looking over at the men’s team, is there anyone you would like to play one-on-one against?

Senior Romisha Taylor has been essential to this team this season.

A: I would play Roosevelt {Green}, just because we are both not known for scoring 30 points a game, but we will score if we have to. If we have to put the team on our back then we will do that. I would like to play him just for fun, but I would probably whoop him.

Q: What is your favorite sport to watch?

A: Football. I actually just got into it this year. I really was not a fan of it because I thought what the point of it is, but I actually watch it on my own now. I just want to see who gets injured and how.

Q: What is something that the typical person does not know about you?

A: Everyone knows that I am loud, but I am a really good dancer and I am a good shopper as well.

Q: If it was not for basketball, what would you be doing?

A: I would be shopping. I would have more time to shop and I would probably have a real job, but I would shop at any time that I could get.
