On Friday, April 15, and Saturday, April 16, the Saint Xavier men and women’s golf team competed in the Pilot Spring Invitational at the Blackthorn Golf Club in South Bend, Indiana. The women would have success in this tournament, while the men would struggle.
The women’s team would be lead by the outstanding play of Taylor Thompson. She would finish in 1st place, individually, with a combined score of 153 over the two days of play. This would be the second straight tournament that Thompson would place in 1st.
The Cougars would also get great play from Hannah Cruz as she would finish in a tie for sixth place with a combined score of 160. This would be a nice bounce-back for Cruz as she finished third overall on the team at their last competition.
The women’s performance would be rounded out by two exceptional performances by Katie Reno and Andrea Strohmaier. Reno would finish in a tie for 34th place with a combined score of 179, while Strohmaier would place in 41st with a two day score of 185.
As a team, these performances would place them in fifth with a team score of 677. The men would not have quite as much success as the women at the Pilot Spring Invitational. The men’s team would be led by Mike Perez, who would place in a tie for 9th with a combined score of 151. Perez would be the only male Cougar that would place in the top 10.
However, that does not mean that the other Cougars did not perform well. Bobby Lively would finish second on the team with a total score of 160 and finish in a tie for 24th place overall. Zack Trent would finish in a tie for 26th place overall with a score of 161.
The team’s effort would be rounded out by Mickey Brick, who would finish with an overall score of 171 and place in a tie for 45th place. As a team, the men would finish in 8th place out of 11 teams with a team score of 643.
The next event that both teams will compete in is the Elmhurst College Invite at the Oak Brook Golf Club in Oak Brook, IL. The women will look to continue their recent success on Tuesday, April 19, while the men will look to collectively improve from this tournament on Thursday, April 21.
