On Wednesday, September 7, Apple officially announced the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Since this is the new phone, you may be wondering what’s new.
For starters, Apple hasn’t really changed the look of the phone. The iPhone 7 looks identical to the previous two phones, the 6S and the 6. The screen size and dimensions are exactly the same as the 6S.
However, Apple did make some major design changes. The iPhone 7 no longer has a headphone jack. But don’t worry. You can still you use your headphones that you love because the new phone will come packaged with a Lightning cable to headphone jack adapter. The only downside is you can’t charge your phone and listen to music through your headphones at the same time now.
The alternative is Apple’s new wireless headphones, the AirPods. They are completely wireless and connect to your phone by placing them by your phone. The AirPods will come with its own charging case, and will be available in late October starting at $159.
The iPhone 7 has a new 12-megapixel camera and a 7-megapixel front facing camera so you can take better selfies. The iPhone 7 Plus has a new dual camera system, which allows for a 2x optical zoom. Apple has said that this is the best camera for an iPhone to date.
Apple also remodeled the home button. The home button is now force sensitive, like the trackpads on MacBook’s. Despite these changes, they did not get rid of the fingerprint scanner.
Other features include water and dust resistance, a longer battery life that lasts 2 hours more than the previous phone, stereo speakers, the new A10 fusion chip, and a 25% brighter retina display.
The new iPhone will be available to purchase on September 16, and pre-orders start today. They will be available in standard black, silver, gold, rose gold, and the new jet black. iPhone 7 with 32GB of storage will start at $649, and the phone with 256GB is $849. The 32GB iPhone 7 Plus phone will start at $769, and goes up to $969 for the 256GB phone.
