Another Successful Week of Track!

This past weekend the Saint Xavier University Track and Field teams were at it again! The women competed in the Keck Invitational in Bloomington, Illinois, hosted by Illinois Wesleyan University.

The men’s track team was split up with some of the guys competing in the IWU Invitational in Marion, Indiana, hosted by Indiana Wesleyan, while the other competitors found themselves competing in the Tom Hathaway Challenge in Indianapolis, Indiana, hosted by the University of Indianapolis.

The women found themselves with another outstanding week for their competition! Competing in the women’s 800 meter run, senior Jackie Ott ended up taking ninth place out of over 50 competitors, finishing with a time of 2:25.16.

Right behind Ott in the women’s 800 was junior Leslie Rosario who placed 15th with a time of 2:26.62. For the women’s one mile run, once again senior Rachael Dean had another impressive run finishing in first place with a time of 5:06.07.

In the women’s 5000 meter run, senior Ashley Shares also had another impressive day finishing in second place with a time of 17:57.93.

The men’s team found themselves competing in two separate locations this week. In the event at Indiana Wesleyan University, freshman Eric Hancock competed in the men’s 1000 meter run and finished in sixth place with a time of 2:34.05.

At the event in Indianapolis, sophomore John Stancato had another big week placing first in the men’s 200 meter dash with a time of 22.91. In the men’s 800 meter run, junior Shane Kenney placed third with a time of 1:58.81.

Sophomore Brian Corcoran finished in fifth place in the men’s 3000 meter  run with a time of 8:55.41.

The Cougars finished with another successful week as their season slowly winds down. The next event for the men’s track and field team will be at the Chicagoland Championships in Naperville, Illinois, hosted by North Central College this Saturday, February 9th.

The women will compete on Friday, February 8th in the same event. Following the events this weekend, the Cougars will have one more race prior to the NAIA National Championships that will commence from February 28 – March 2 in Newark, Ohio, for the men and Geneva, Ohio, for the women.
