On November 1, 2022, it was confirmed that rapper Kirshnik “Takeoff” Ball passed away from a fatal shooting. The shooting occurred early that morning next to a bowling alley where a private event was taking place. The exact details have yet to be determined.
Takeoff was one of the three members in the rap group “Migos” along with Quavo and Offset. Migos is short for “the Three Amigos” which symbolized their close bond outside of rap.
This group emerged in Atlanta, Georgia where they grew up and rose to popularity in 2013, making a tremendous impact for nearly a decade.
Takeoff was an artist that rappers made sure to work with, he was incredibly popular for features as well as production. Takeoff stood out from other rappers for his production skills and unparalleled ear for good music.
In the past year Migos decided to part ways, Offset becoming his own independent artist and Quvao and Takeoff partnering up to extend their platform. For a while, Quavo and Offset were doing extremely well; forming their own sense of style in music that their audience grew to love even more.
On October 7, 2022, Quavo and Takeoff released their album “ Only Built For Infinity Links”. This album made a huge impact on the rap industry, having elite features such as Summer Walker, Gucci Mane, Gunna, and Young Thug compliment this project. There were so many songs that did extremely well, such as “HOBBY LOBBY,” “To The Bone,” and “Bars in Caption.”
Unfortunately Quavo and Takeoff’s success as a duo was short-lived.
On Nov 1, 2022 Takeoff’s death was announced and the rap world was at a standstill. Artists started to Tweet their feelings and process of mourning, and others made posts on Instagram in honor of his passing.
A lot of artists have also been making remarks on how the black community keeps losing their loved ones to gun violence. Takeoff was one of few rappers who did not have a violent persona attached to his name, and most people remember him for his calm demeanor and funny personality. It truly hurts us to continuously lose our love to gun violence, especially when the people who get involved are innocent and non controversial.
Takeoff and Offset have not said much in regards to their loved one’s passing. It is confirmed that Quavo was with Takeoff that night going into that morning, celebrating Halloween together.
As the investigation continues, one thing is for certain; Takeoff was not supposed to be involved. I am extremely hurt to see someone that I admired growing up into adulthood pass away early in his life. His energy, creative producing, and tonality will live on in the hearts and minds of all his fans, we have witnessed another angel take off.
