The Saint Xavier University football team held their annual postseason banquet at the DoubleTree Hotel in Alsip, Ill., on Sunday, January, 13, and many awards were handed out and players were recognized. There were approximately 225 people who turned out for the banquet including staff, coaches, players, parents and family members.
Head coach Mike Feminis spoke and recognized the staff and coaches for their continuous support and President Christine Wiseman gave a speech congratulating the players and the team on their tremendous accomplishments this past season.
Special teams coordinator Mike Slovick, offensive coordinator Mark Yanule and defensive coordinator Werner Emmrich all gave speeches and handed out awards to several players. Some of the highlights included junior running back Nick Pesek winning the 2012 Cougar Award and senior quarterback Jimmy Coy winning the team’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.
It was announced that next years team captains will be Zach Dolph, Jacob Ghinazzi, Tim Ladd, Dave Marciano as well as Pesek as this team looks to build on a tremendous season. Another big announcement that was made was that the Cougars will make the switch over to the Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) Midwest League next season and SXU will kick off the 2013 slate with a home game against the 2012 NAIA National Champion Marian University Knights in a crossover game.
