An Open Letter to Saint Xavier Students

SXU Spring Formal — sxu.edu

Hello fellow SXU Cougars,

To all the students who did not get a ticket to Spring Formal and found themselves yelling and cussing out the student workers and faculty in Student Affairs – watch out. Your entitlement is showing.

To all the students who cried over not being able to buy their ticket, claimed that they were never told that the tickets were on sale, and accosted the people in the SOC, demanding to know where the tickets were: stop it.

There are NO MORE tickets. You were told. You were emailed. You have access to the Den and the school website.

In fact, you probably walked by the SXC board members every day for a month in the Diner as they incessantly shouted “Spring Formal! Spring Formal tickets! On sale now! There’s a limited amount, and prices will increase, so buy them while you still have a chance!!”

Let’s be real. The REAL reason you’re upset isn’t because you don’t get to go to a glorified high school prom with alcohol (that, YES, you have to pay for and, YES, you will be carded!).

You’re upset because you thought you were guaranteed a ticket. You thought you could do what you do for your essays: wait until the very last minute, and then sprint towards the finish line….or in this case, the Shedd Aquarium.

Actually, it’s more than that. You EXPECTED there to be a ticket waiting for you. And when there wasn’t, well you damn near lost your minds!

Here’s the thing. SXC plans a LOT of events for SXU students; from Welcome Week and the Foam Party, to the popular Taste of SXU, to the Finals Breakfast so many of you love.

SXC literally exists to serve the students. And no, they don’t have an unlimited budget to buy 3,000 tickets to the Shedd Aquarium!

For students to take their anger at themselves out on members of SXC, well frankly, it’s just plain childish. Especially when you have your mom call to yell at them for you.

Here at The Xavierite, we get it. You wanted to go to the dance. You wanted to have a fun night. You wanted to hang out with your friends and explore the Shedd Aquarium, eat free food, and have a couple drinks.

But you missed your opportunity, and that is your own fault. Don’t blame others for your lack of responsibility.

Oh, and for the people in the back? The ones who are crying because you “already bought your outfit?” Well, honey, maybe next time you should make sure you have somewhere to wear an outfit to first.
