Calling all Adele fans! Adele, coming off an extended six-year hiatus, has finally made her long-awaited musical comeback, which turned out to be precisely what we all expected. Adele also released an emotional video that portrays her in an empty house and driving on the road, welcoming a new chapter in her life.
The “Easy on Me” single comes from her upcoming album “30”, released on Nov. 19. Adele went on Instagram live a week before the song’s release to chat with fans and share a snippet. While answering fans’ questions, the “Set Fire to the Rain” singer revealed that “30” would be about her divorce. What’s your next album going to be about? A fan asked on Adele’s Instagram, “Divorce babe, divorce”, she answered.
Adele revealed that her marriage to her ex-husband Simon Konecki was nothing ‘painful’ nor ‘miserable’ but that they fell out of love and needed to put herself first. Adele also acknowledged that her son Angelo had a tough time dealing with the separation of his parents. She stated in an interview with British Vogue, “I wanted my son to see me love and be loved. It’s really important to me”.
Adele made rounds on the internet with her second studio album, “21”, released in 2011. The album featured popular songs such as “Rolling in the Deep” and “Someone Like You,” which debuted at number 1 on the Billboard hot 100 charts. After that, she took a break from music then came back in 2015 with the single ‘Hello”, which broke the internet when she released it silently with no promotion. The song broke many records, including the VEVO record for the most views a piece gained in 24 hours with 27.7 million views. “Hello” also became the shortest video to reach a billion views on YouTube and has gained over 2.8 billion views in total.
Now that Adele has made her long-awaited return, the statistics speak for themselves. On Spotify, “Easy on Me” gained the most streams in 24 hours, with 20.9 million global listeners. On YouTube, the video gained 15 million views within only 8 hours after its release. After a little over a day after its release, the video has 58 million views and counting.
After listening to the song, and watching the video, although Adele has been absent from the music industry for a while, it is safe to say that the 33-year-old singer has not lost her touch with music and has come back better than ever. With newfound happiness and an overall new chapter in her life, we can’t wait to see what is in store for this new album and what other surprises Adele has yet to uncover.
