Saint Xavier University will be holding its annual Spring Formal dance on Friday, March 31 at the Drake Hotel in downtown Chicago.
Previously, the Spring Formal has been held in locations such as Navy Pier, with attendees spending the evening on a boat.
Johnnetta Washington, the Student Government Association Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion, stated that the Drake “was chosen because it’s very elegant and we (SGA) wanted to give students an opportunity to immerse themselves in one of Chicago’s most historic hotels and Chicago culture”.
The Drake Hotel first opened its doors in 1920 and is now recognized by the Historic Hotels of America for “preserving and maintaining its historic integrity, architecture, and ambiance”.
Students that wish to attend the Starry Night themed dance can purchase tickets for $30 per ticket for students and if they want to bring a guest it will be $50, either through the link sent to students emails or stopping by the “SXU Diner, on-campus Starbucks, Shannon Center, Graham School of Management, and Coffee Cats”.
Washington continued, stating that updates on ticket sale locations and times could be found on the Student Government Association’s social media. There are 233 tickets available as of February 7.
The evening’s dress code is a “black tie optional look” to fit the Starry Night theme of the dance.
Spring Formal attendees will be provided with transportation to and from campus and the venue for the formal. Washington stated that for attendees of the dance, “it is mandatory that they take the transportation provided”.
Attendees will have “dinner served and soft drinks will be available and dessert will be provided”, and a cash bar will be provided for attendees 21 and older, although they must bring a valid form of identification.
As is the case with all university-related events, students in attendance will be expected “to be responsible and embody the mercy values while representing the university”.
For more information about the Spring Formal, students can contact the Student Government Association through the emails provided on their Den page.
