Something Has to Change for the Men’s Basketball Team

With the Men’s basketball team standing at a current record of 3-6, some changes are certainly in order if they wish to capitalize on the young season and not fall too far behind. Firstly, there is the competition factor. On their 11/27 loss to Holy Cross, they loss by 31 points. Losing by that many points is simply unacceptable. Also, allowing the other team to shoot 56% is unacceptable. Although they obtained 7 blocks and 4 steals, don’t let the numbers fool you as the Cougars defense was essentially non-existent as they let their opponents outrun them on fast breaks, and out maneuver them to create open shots for themselves. If the Cougars want to get back to some consistent winning ways, then they need to start showing consistent effort on defense. There are games (games in which they win) when the Cougars are turning up both on offense and especially defense and this usually leads to a win, but games like this when they aren’t playing defense and only looking to ‘outscore’ their opponents is the reason why the win loss record is the way it is now. This team has potential to go far in the CCAC conference, how bad they work for it and truly want to succeed will be the ultimate measurement at the end of the day.

Will they do just this? Find out this upcoming Saturday when the Cougars face off against Governors State University in what’s surly to be a heated away game.
