With Thanksgiving coming up, SXU’s Tau Sigma chapter, Zeta Tau, is collecting non-perishable foods until November 17th. The foods will be donated to Morgan Park Food Pantry. The donations can be dropped at the red boxes located outside the Butler Reception Hall or in the Shannon Center.

In addition, Tau Sigma will volunteer at the Morgan Park Food Pantry (11030 S Longwood Dr.) to prepare and distribute food for Thanksgiving. This volunteering opportunity will be held on November 15th from 9am to noon, and November 18th from 8:30am to noon. Spaces are still open if students wish to volunteer.

“Tau Sigma is a newly formed Chapter at SXU and has approximately 100 members.  Tau Sigma is designed to promote student life at SXU for our new full-time transfer students,” explained Eileen Luce, SXU Tau Sigma coordinator and associate director of transfer and partnership.

Tau Sigma is a National Honor Society for transfer students at four year universities. In order to be eligible for Tau Sigma membership, transfer students must obtain a GPA higher than 3.5 during their first semester at SXU. According to Luce, the benefits of being a Tau Sigma member are: scholarship and volunteer opportunities, mentoring programs, social events, and connection to SXU.

Earlier in the semester, on September 28th, Tau Sigma inducted 30 new members. The ceremony was held in the 4th Floor Boardroom from 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm. Tau Sigma members and staff gave speeches at the ceremony. Family members of inductees were invited and refreshments were offered.
