Twitter has announced that they will be discontinuing the popular video app, Vine, in the coming months. Due to a loss of interest of co-founders and users of the app in the recent years, as well as competition from other video-sharing apps, the end of the “Do It For The Vine” era has come to an end.
We have to give Vine its due credit, however. It was a revolutionary app that laid the groundwork for the growing video-sharing apps that we use today-like Instagram and Snapchat, as well as Vine’s owner, Twitter’s videos. Vines looped like gifs, but were actual videos. Vines and Viners went viral quickly over the Internet. Even some celebrities used Vine. Despite the fact that Vine will be shutting down, Vine was still astoundingly popular for a long time.
Vine should always be remembered as the popular ground-building app for all the future video-sharing apps we will use in the future. Just like MySpace was popular for a long time, but ultimately became obsolete, it still laid the groundwork for today’s popular social media sites, like Facebook and Twitter. So, when we fall in love with a new app in the future that centers on video-sharing, we know that we have Vine to thank.
