October is the month for National Domestic Violence Awareness. With the purpose of raising awareness of domestic violence, National Week of Action kicked off today Wednesday, October 19th, at Saint Xavier University. Throughout this week, several events will take place to educate students about this type of abuse. These events are sponsored by Saint Xavier Council (SXC) and Student Life.

Domestic violence is defined as “a pattern of abusive behavior in any relationship that is used by one partner to gain or maintain power and control over another intimate partner.” It can be either emotional, psychological, economic, sexual, or physical. According to CDC’s National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey, approximately 12 million individuals are victims of domestic violence every year.
