RUSSIA (CNN)- Track and field athletes from Russia could be banned from the 2016 Olympics after a report from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) found that there is an alleged widespread state-sponsored doping program.
The former president of WADA, Dick Pound, did the report, and found that there was a “deeply rooted culture of cheating at all levels” within Russian athletic. The report also claims that a laboratory in Moscow “intentionally and maliciously” destroyed over 1,400 samples.
The report recommends that five athletes and five coaches, all from Russia, should be banned for life from the
MISSOURI (AP)- The president of the University of Missouri has resigned from his position as of Monday after the football team, as well as, other students on campus revolted over what they perceived as they president’s apathy towards racial tensions on campus.
Members of black student groups had sent in many complaints that former president Time Wolfe was indifferent towards the slew of racial slurs and other harassment that students received on the mainly white campus.
The complaints did not receive much attention until 30 African American football players boycotted playing for the team until the president left the school.
JORDAN (CNN)- Two American contractors were killed by a Jordanian police officer on Monday at a training facility. Two other Americans and four Jordanians were also wounded during the incident.
The shooter was a police officer that had been recently fired, but it is unclear if his recent unemployment was the reason for the shooting. Jordanian security forces killed the former police officer.
SYRIA (CNN) – President Obama recently authroized a deployment of U.S. ground troops in Syria. The U.S. government says that it is only set to send “less than 50” Special Operations forces. These forces are going to be sent in to assists Kurds and Arabs in their fight against ISIS.
CNN quotes White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest as saying: “These forces do not have a combat mission.”
