The Talk About Frozen

Do you want to watch a movie?
Do you want to watch a movie?

Following its debut in theaters, Disney’s Frozen recently came out on DVD, and the movie has been a hit with people of all ages. Even more shockingly, even the guys seem to like it.

But what is about this Disney princess movie that has even the most macho men singing the soundtrack? What is it about Frozen that appeals to us all?

Here are the top four reasons why.

It’s Disney.

I have yet to meet a person who doesn’t have an appreciation for these movies. Well, it’s usually the girls with a love for Disney.

The male counterparts (best friends, boyfriends, and brothers) are usually roped into watching them as well, but are eventually willing to admit that the movies aren’t all that bad.

And because it’s Disney, it’s family-friendly. With themes of stay true to one’s self, friendship, love, and more, there’s a lesson to be learned for all ages.

The songs are catchy.

I cannot even accurately proclaim how many times I’ve overheard someone randomly burst into Kristen Bell’s rendition of “Do You Want To Build A Snowman?” (sound effects included).

That, and Idina Menzel’s or Demi Lovato’s  versions of “Let It Go” are songs you can’t help but sing.

And let’s be honest, if you sing them, you have to belt them.

It’s not another love story.

Well, it is… but not the typical, happily-ever-after kind.

I don’t want to give too much away for those who haven’t seen it yet, but these princesses are some pretty self-sufficient and independent young women.

The knight in shining armor that usually swoops in to save the day at the end of the movie has no place here, and neither does “love at first sight”.

These “damsels in distress” are left to figure it out on their own. And get this… the handsome and chiseled Prince Charming actually doesn’t get the girl this time.

Olaf.

Girl or boy, young or old… Olaf will win your heart. The trusty snowman sidekick is funny, lovable, and awfully adorable.

He’s a bit naïve, with an impossible love for warm things, but he dreams big, and his selfless love for his friends will have you melting. But hey, some characters are just worth melting for.
