S.H.I.E.L.D. comes to the silver screen!

I am sure that many, if not all, of you have seen the movie Marvel’s The Avengers. In case you haven’t seen it, one of the characters, S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg), gets shot by Loki. Because of his death, the Avengers finally have something to avenge, and they end up saving the whole world.

There is one problem with this. Agent Coulson is not dead. I have two reasons for thinking this.

One, we never see Coulson’s body once he dies or hear a medical official say that he is actually dead. All we see is that he gets stabbed and hear Nick Fury say he’s dead, and as we all know, Nick Fury is known for lying to get results.

Two, Agent Coulson is going to be starring in the new TV show, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which premieres Tuesday, September 24 on ABC at 7p.m. CST.

This show will follow the adventures of a special section of S.H.I.E.L.D. (Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division), which is designed to take on some of the stranger cases that the organization receives.

Agent Coulson returns to head this section of S.H.I.E.L.D., and he assembles his own band of specialists.

Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen), weapons-expert-and-ace-pilot-turned-desk-worker, is brought on to the team to, in the words of Coulson, “Just drive the bus” (or in this case fly the jet).

Black Ops Specialist Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton) may be good on any reconnaissance mission, but his people skills and charm are sorely lacking.

Newly recruited civilian Skye (Chloe Bennet) is known for her ability to hack any computer, and she is completely obsessed with superheroes.

Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge), often referred to as “Fitzsimmons”, are a weapons technology specialist and life sciences expert, respectively.

It seems like Coulson has all of his bases covered when it comes to his team, which is not really a team (but totally is). That is one thing I took away from watching all of the trailers that have come out so far, at least. It can be kind of difficult to figure out plot when a show’s length worth of trailer uses the same two minutes’ worth of clips.

I cannot wait to see this side of Marvel. I have seen a lot of superhero movies, and now I am looking forward to see people using talents and strengths that they had to work for as opposed to being given (granted not all superheroes have to put zero effort into getting their powers).

I want to see people that I could believe actually exist. I don’t want super-humans. I want super humans. I feel like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. can give me that.
