Saint Xavier University’s Town Hall Meeting The Xavierite
Saint Xavier University (SXU) students raised concerns about tuition costs, career opportunities, campus safety and residence hall conditions during the 2026 town hall meeting on Thursday, Oct. 15, in the Butler Reception Room.
The town hall meeting gave students the opportunity to speak directly with SXU’s leadership including President Keith Elder, Ph.D., and Provost Caress Dean, Ph.D., MPH, MPA, about their experiences on campus.
Students addressed concerns regarding scholarship availability, parking, campus lighting, graduate programs and student resources.
Elder explained that the university is doing well overall, but wants to understand what more they can do to better support students.
“This is our third year of enrollment growth. We just need to know what else we need to do to better accommodate for you all,” Elder said.
One topic discussed was the need for more career opportunities that represent students across all majors.
Students expressed that SXU’s career fairs have not always included employers related to their specific fields of study.
Students raised concerns about the limited opportunities available for certain majors. One asked whether SXU could do more to build professional connections with larger corporations to bring more employers to campus for student organizations and networking events.
Dean shared that SXU is working to develop more partnerships with businesses and professional organizations. She explained that the Career Development Center is trying to establish more connections that can create additional career and internship opportunities.
Dean also discussed a newly received grant called the ELITE Grant, which supports hiring a coordinator that will focus on internship and volunteer opportunities. The coordinator is expected to help create more opportunities for students across different academic programs.
