Did you know that there are people willing to do anything to be attractive? They’re not doing the usual things like plastic surgeries, but strange, often dangerous things like taking illegal stimulants to suppress their appetites.
Some will stay tame and chew on rubber balls to define their jawlines, while others are more extreme and smash the bones in their face with a hammer to perfect their bone structure.
Looksmaxxers are a community of people, typically men, that believe physical attraction is the most important quality of a person. Due to this belief, these young men will go to extreme lengths to make themselves as attractive as possible to reach “ascension.”
It is very important to note that this community is another form of the manosphere—a collection of online communities that appeal to younger men and often enforce bigoted beliefs to spread a hateful agenda.
The poster child of this community is Braden Peters, or more commonly known by his streamer name: “Clavicular.”
Peters is the perfect example of what the manosphere does to impressionable young men. It strips them of every chance they have to live a normal life.
Looksmaxxing seems to be the only thing he cares for since he found it, and that tends to be true for most people in the community. Everything comes second to being as attractive as possible.
He did attempt to attend college, but that was short-lived as he was expelled three weeks into his freshman year. An online tip from a looksmaxxing forum led the police to Peters’ dorm, where they found steroids.
It is not uncommon for those in the looksmaxxing community to consume illegal substances to achieve a certain look. It is just one of the many things they encourage in order to look as they desire.
Of course, if a drug is not necessary then it will not be prescribed, but there are ways people get around this. In order to have access to the illegal substances they want, looksmaxxers purchase them illegally.
Young men are not only at risk of legal troubles but also a variety of health problems. Consuming substances that aren’t necessary can have detrimental effects, especially on people so young.
Sometime in April of this year, Peters was suspected of having an overdose on stream, likely because of the amount of substances he consumes in order to feel confident in his body.
No matter what Peters does to himself, he like many others involved in looksmaxxing blame women.
The community enforces the “us versus them” ideology, and we often see this same principle in far-right politics, especially when it comes to conversations surrounding immigration laws and women’s rights.
With companions such as Andrew Tate and Nick Fuentes, Peters does not set a very good example for the young people following him.
Tate is known for disrespecting and exploiting women because he believes them to be inferior to men. Fuentes is known for being a racist, misogynistic, homophobic, and antisemetic white nationalist.
These are the people Peters wants his audience to look up to. As the saying goes, birds of a feather flock together.
This is another reason why looksmaxxing is so dangerous.
