New windows in the WAC The Xavierite
Saint Xavier University is in the midst of replacing windows in the Warde Academic Center (WAC). The project, along with other campus infrastructure improvements, are planned to continue through mid-2028.
Construction began in 2025 for windows to be replaced in each wing in Warde. This includes the S-Wing, E-Wing, N-Wing, L-Wing, and G-Wing.
Pete Skach, Director of Facilities Services, explained, “The windows are being replaced because they are aging and have exceeded their useful life.”
“The project was supported by the university’s upper administration and was approved after the full scope of work and costs were reviewed,” Skach further explained. “The window replacement project was awarded to Replacement Window Systems, an outside contractor working on the installation.”

According to Skach, the new windows are high-quality thermal windows from a different manufacturer than the previous ones. They are expected to provide improved performance.
The cost of the project varies since there is a different amount of windows in each wing. Skach did not provide a total project cost.
University President Keith Elder, Ph.D, said the new windows are being funded through state grant money received by the university.
“The board approves how SXU spends the grant money from the state,” Elder shared.
Elder added how the university has been using state funding for different infrastructure projects across campus. This includes restoring the music space as well as replacing windows and roofs.
Most of the construction has taken place during breaks to reduce the impact on students.
As construction continues in different wings, temporary barricades may be placed for safety reasons.
