Jane Hobson is our ‘Featured Artist of the Week’ for the week of May 11. Originally from Madison, Wisconsin, Jane is the daughter of Dan Hobson, drummer for legendary grunge band Killdozer.

Jane describes her music as journal entries to what she is experiencing in life . In this interview, Peter Kreten speaks with Jane on the phone to learn how the over structure of musical theater pushed to her to performing her own music, her approach to writing, and how the local scene might be the best in the country right now.

Also, on this week’s show, The Empty Pockets. They are playing The Lyric Theater on Saturday, May 16 in Blue Island, Illinois. We’re also spinning new music from Almost Only and Park Hills Circle.

Finally, we are playing two musicians new to ‘773 Sounds’. ktwheels is an indie/alternative artist that brings a “crunchy sound” to her music.

Dr. Charles Joseph Smith is a legendary figure on the Chicago DIY scene, during his 30 plus year career. His new collection called ‘The Collected Works and War of the Maritian Ghosts through Sooper Records is available now. The Chicago Reader and WBEZ have done stories on him.

773 Sounds is WXAV’s local music show that airs every Tuesday at 6pmCST and is re-played every Saturday at 10amCST.
