All’s Fair in Love and Ticket Wars

Obtaining tickets for highly anticipated concerts is always a blood-bath, but none have been as intense yet entertaining as K-Pop concerts.

As of now, I’ve ticketed for three separate K-Pop concerts—Tomorrow X Together, TWICE and BTS. Tomorrow X Together was the smoothest and most pleasant. TWICE was mildly difficult but not impossible..

BTS, however, was by far the most tedious ticketing process I have ever been through. It was like trying to line up for black friday in the 2000s.

I attempted to get BTS tickets during their general sale for Chicago on January 24. In my delusion, I thought I had a chance to get a ticket despite the presale selling out in minutes just days prior.

I was around 26,000 in the queue which was actually on the lower side for this concert. On social media, various fans reported being in the hundred thousands.

I attempted to get tickets alongside a group of friends, who joined me via FaceTime. We ultimately failed to secure any tickets, but still found it to be a fun experience despite the disappointment of it all.

I have my qualms with the modern ticketing system – and the capitalistic hellscape that is dynamic pricing – but always find trying to get tickets with my friends a unique bonding experience I’ll never tire of.

TWICE was my favorite ticketing experience thus far. My friends and I met in the TRIO office and rallied up all our devices to prepare.

We even laid out several photo cards of the TWICE members around our devices for “good luck.” I’m not too sure how well that worked for us, but I like to believe they brought us some sort of boost, even if only in morale.

We somehow managed to secure VIP floor tickets for TWICE—I can’t even begin to describe how electric the room felt the moment we got them. It was like the Bears just won a game; I don’t even remember doing anything but screaming in excitement.

I’ve yet to attend the TWICE concert, but I firmly believe that getting those tickets will be one of my favorite memories associated with it in years to come.

As painful as it is to see the money leave my bank account, I’ll never stop loving the ticket war.
