The X-Factor Process at SXU: All You Need to Know

During the week of Jan. 28 through Jan. 31, organizations including; X-Factor Student Leadership, Student Government Association, Residence Hall Association, Campus Ministry, Student Ambassadors Program, Student Activities Board, and the Student Advising Center hosted an X-Factor Info Tables event to explain information about the X-Factor process.

“This opportunity provides students with a lot of skills that can be applicable in their careers. As they start to build their resumes they can build on their experience in leadership positions,” shared Blanca Correa, Student Development Spec.

“Whatever career path you’re going in, you will grow past those stages where you’re a little nervous and unsure. This helps to build on those skills,” Correa continued.

Four different info tables were available to answer any questions those interested may have.

To start the application process you must attend an X-Factor Info Session, log into the SXU Den through the MySXU Portal, click the blue “Join” button near the top right corner, after you send a request to join and it has been accepted, access the application under the “Forms” category.

Positions are not able to conflict with other positions.

Students are able to apply for any and all roles they are eligible for. Interviews may be requested for roles and applicants are only able to accept 2 roles at most.

According to an email sent by the SXU X-Factor Selection Committee, “Every year, Saint Xavier University hires approximately 100 student leaders in a variety of paid positions* who support key initiatives in student success, guidance, persistence and programming.”

Positions include; Cougar Peer Mentor (CPM), Cougar Peer Mentor (Summer Emcee), Peer Minister (PM), Resident Housing Association (RHA), Student Ambassador, Student Activities Board (SAB), and Student Government Association (SGA).

Certain qualifications are required for each role. Some qualifications include; currently enrolled at SXU for the returning Fall ‘25 semester, have a minimum 2.6 cumulative GPA, enrolled full time (12 minimum credits), have good academic and disciplinary standing, and more.

Being a student leader comes with responsibilities and opportunities to gain experience. Those who become a student leader are able to learn critical thinking and problem solving skills, communicate effectively, personal development, teamwork and collaboration, leadership skills, career management skills, work ethic, and more.

According to Correa, the X-Factor process takes about a few months to complete due to the amount of students applying, and making sure they are ready to take on the roles they apply for.

Students are able to apply for positions on the SXU Den. Applications are due on Monday Feb. 10 by 12 p.m. Each applicant is required to RSVP and attend the Synergy Summit on Feb. 21 from 3-6 p.m.

New Applicant Group process Invitations will be sent by Friday, Feb. 14. The invitations will include sign-up instructions for sessions on either Monday Feb. 24 or Thursday Feb. 27. Sessions are invitation only to attend.

Invitations for Interviews will be sent to applicants during the last week of Feb. and New Applicant Individual Interviews will be held the week of March 3.
