Arokoyo and Throws Squad Take Over at Walter Cramer Invite

The Cougars came through to the Walter Cramer invite and put in their best efforts, but the throws squad stole the show, throwing at their best distances and claiming new personal records (PR). 

Senior thrower, Ayobami Arokoyo, was the main headliner as he hit the NAIA “B” Standard in Shot Put. Arokoyo threw for a distance of 16.47m (meters), setting a school record. 

Arokoyo is now the first Saint Xavier University (SXU) thrower to surpass the 16.00m mark at an Indoor meet, making this the second time in his collegiate career where he earned the title of being first in SXU.

Junior thrower, Riley Lundgren, placed third in the event, throwing for a distance of 14.39m, the second best distance for the entire Throws squad. 

Sophomore thrower, Thomas Imburgia, threw for 13.21m, placing him in the Top 10.

Junior thrower, Drake Hayes, walked away from the event with a new PR, throwing a toss of 11.93m.

During the Weight Throw, senior thrower, Isaac Adams, placed sixth with a throw for 14.60m, making this his second-best throw of his career.

Junior thrower, Justin Laws, finished in seventh place with a toss of 14.30m. This was the second best throw in the Weight Throw for SXU after Adams.  

Sophomore thrower, Connor Whalen, finished the contest in the eighth spot after throwing for a distance of 14.16m, which is his third-best career throw.

Senior thrower, Robert Davis, threw for a distance of 10.33m in the Shot Put, making this throw his third-best of his career. Davis also took part in the Weight Throw, establishing a new PR with a distance of 11.36m.

While the Throws squad had a good showing out, we saw many of our Cougars shine in other events. During the 60m Dash, sophomore sprinter, Jamaurien Thomas, killed it in the preliminaries, finishing with a time of 7.19 seconds. This qualified him into the finals, where he recorded a time of 7.29 seconds.

Sophomore sprinter Teddy Garman finished with a time of 7.31 seconds, which is his season-best time and his second-best of his career.

Sophomore sprinter Jayquan Hampton made his season debut on Friday and finished with an impressive time of 7.39 seconds.

During the 200m, we saw Garman compete in the event which is his first time doing so this year, and he finished with a time of 23.10 seconds, which happens to be his third-best career mark.

Junior sprinter, Myles Money, made an appearance in the event for the first time this season as well, and Money proceeded to post a time of 23.17 seconds. His second-fastest career time.

Freshman sprinter, Nate Kalk, competed in the 60m Dash and the 200m, Kalk finished the 60m Dash with a time of 7.74 seconds and finished the 200m at 24.26 seconds. A new PR.

At the 400m event, junior sprinter/hurdler, Charlie Watson, claimed a new PR, finishing with a time of 52.24 seconds. Placing him at seventh place.

Sophomore sprinter Andy Damon took part in the 400m for the first time in his collegiate career, in this race he posted a time of 55.51 seconds.

At the 800m, senior sprinter, Isaac Sytsma, won the 800m for the first time as a Cougar. Sytsma posted the fastest time in team history with a time of 1:54.50.  

Sophomore sprinter, Marquise Hurst, made his collegiate debut and performed well. Hurst recorded a time of 2:10.99.

During the Mile, junior distance runner Rohindeep Bhattel placed second in the competition with a time of 4:29.18. A new PR for Bhattel.

Senior distance runner Josiah Sianez posted a time of 4:36.05 in the Mile to finish in seventh place. This was Sianez’s fastest career time.

In the 3000m, sophomore distance runner, Luis Lopez, placed third in the race with a time of 9:09.58. Besting his old PR by 10 seconds. 

Junior distance runner, Ben Morrey, destroyed his previous PR by 21 seconds, placing in seventh with a time of 9:16.49.

In the 60m Hurdles finals, we saw senior hurdler, Lendale Franklin, win the race for the third time this season. Franklin finished at a time of 8.20 seconds.

Harris also took part in the Hurdles finals and he placed third with a time of 8.61 seconds.

Redshirt sophomore sprinter, Karam Jaber, participated in the 400m and the 60m Hurdles. During the 400m, Jaber finished the race with a time of 53.10 seconds. At the preliminaries of the 60m Hurdles, Jaber clocked in a time of 8.77 seconds which is his second best time.

During the finals, Jaber recorded his third-best career time, clocking in 8.92 seconds to claim fourth place.

Senior jumper, Ronnie Foster, was another star last Friday as he won both the Long Jump and the Triple Jump. he finished at the Long Jump with a distance of 6.67m and finished the Triple Jump with a distance of 13.43m.

Senior sprinter, Gavin Dudley, competed in the Long Jump and recorded a jump for 6.17m, his sixth best.

Just like Foster, sophomore sprinter/jumper, Faruq Sulaimon, joined in the Long Jump and Triple Jump event. Sulaimon placed ninth at the Long Jump with a distance of 5.99m. Sulaimon finished the Triple Jump in sixth place with a distance of 11.79m.

The men’s track squad looks forward to giving it what they got for the two-day CCAC Indoor Championships, which begins on Friday, Feb 7 in Davenport, Iowa.
