“The Christmas Orphans Club” by Becca Freeman

After the election, I needed a light and comforting read. With the holiday season near, “The Christmas Orphans Club” was perfect. It tells the story of four best friends in NYC trying to hold onto their Christmas tradition despite the chaos of adulthood. It includes both alternating perspectives and timelines.

I don’t read a lot of rom-coms, because I usually find them unrealistic and written poorly. However, “The Christmas Orphans Club” made me reconsider this judgment. It’s a fun read, but it also includes complex and flawed characters. These characters make mistakes, apologize, and work hard for their happy endings. They feel like people I know in real life or even myself.

There are holiday hijinks, platonic and romantic love, and charming characters. What’s not to enjoy? If you decide to pick up “The Christmas Orphans Club,” you’ll most likely finish it with a smile like I did.
