SXU Celebrates 175th Anniversary Events

Posted on October 27, 2021

On November 6, Saint Xavier University will host two special events in celebration of the school’s founding.

The evening begins with a Celebratory Mass, held in McDonough Chapel of the Mother of Mercy on campus, at 5 p.m. The mass is followed by the university’s 175th Anniversary Gala, a cocktail attire event that includes valet parking, located at Ridge Country Club in Chicago, Illinois from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

According to the SXU Website, Saint Xavier is Chicago’s first Catholic university of 175 years, and the first Mercy institution of higher learning in the United States and the world.

As an alumna of Saint Xavier University, Jenny DeVivo, OblSB, Ph.D., mentioned in her October 1 email, that “celebrating our 175th anniversary is particularly inspirational.”

“I help keep alive our institutional memory and proud legacy,” said the Executive Director of Mission and Heritage, continuing, “The more I learn about our founders and history, the more I am inspired to keep alive our institution, help us flourish, and continue the good work we do.”

In addition, SXU students who were recently selected as scholarship recipients are encouraged to partake in a special Mercy Mission Project.

On behalf of University Advancement, Breeanna Villalpando, the Media Relations Manager, stated in a September 30 email, “This project presents an opportunity to serve as a testimonial to the resilience of SXU and its transformative Catholic, Mercy education that has thrived for 175 years.”

Participants who accept the project proposal have a chance to get featured in an interview. The video will be played during the Gala.

Villalpando continued: “We hope the video serves as a homage to the past, while serving as inspiration for our present and future generations of Saint Xavier students, faculty, staff and alumni.”

All guests and community members are invited to join SXU for an evening of dinner, live music, and dancing to celebrate this momentous occasion. Registration is available for those attending both events on the 175th Homepage.

An individual ticket for one attendee is $175.00. Other registration options include a table sponsor, major sponsor, and event sponsor. A premier sponsor has a cost value of $17,5000.00.

Attendees are welcome to make an additional donation. All proceeds from the event support student scholarships, including financial aid assistance.

Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover debit and credit cards will be accepted.

Those who have any questions or need assistance are asked to please call Moira Curran at (773) 298-5170 or contact her via email at curran@sxu.edu.
