J Balvin & Khalid Share Vulnerabilities in “Otra Noche Sin Ti”

Posted on April 14, 2021

The worlds of Reggaeton and R&B collided in Otra Noche Sin Ti (Another Night Without You) by J Balvin, the king of Colores and creator of American Teen Khalid.

The music video/song was released on April 8, and depicts the vulnerability and heartache of missing someone.

This bilingual collaboration truly reflected Khalid and Balvin’s growth as artists. They both come from two complete different worlds yet somehow managed to find a balance between their own sounds.

J Balvin is upbeat and ready to go, while Khalid is up for slowing things down a bit. Otra Noche Sin Ti tested their musical abilities and it eventually became a place for them to unleash their hidden talents and vulnerabilities.

Immediately setting a sad tone, Balvin and Khalid are walking around an empty forest filled with fog desperately seeking to fulfill their void.

Balvin kicks Otra Noche Sin Ti off with this, “Me despierto y lo primero que hago es ver si me escribiste.” (“I wake up and the first thing I do is see if you texted me”) We already know where this is headed.

Balvin takes the lead of this song for the first half singing in Spanish by taking accountability for his cowardness, and accepting he no longer has who he truly wants.

“De mis errores yo soy consciente, pero los cobardes también sienten, tengo que aceptar la realidad de no tenerte.”  (“I am aware of my mistakes, but cowards also have feelings, I have to accept the reality of not having you.”)

Then Khalid’s melodic aura swoops in during the second half and shows what R&B has to offer to Reggeaton.

“Been a while since I’ve seen your face, when you know it gets lonely in LA, thinkin’ of you every day, say the word, I’m on a one way.”

Khalid even brought out his Spanish speaking skills towards the end of the song and everyone is here for it.

Balvin and Khalid included tiny aspects of themselves in this song. Khalid’s somber and chilled out vibe soothed the entire song, while a white dog with a rainbow tail made several appearances throughout the video, indicating Balvin has not lost touch to his album Colores.
