Next Year is Going to be Better than the Last

The Saint Xavier University Quad, which may look amazingly different next school year — The Xavierite

Next year at Saint Xavier University is going to be better than it currently is. For most of us, this year was hard and grueling with a lot of fast-paced changes. However, with these new changes happening around the University comes the morale boost that student and faculty gain from the possibility of new opportunities, as well as the creation of a safer and more well- rounded environment.

The biggest change happening is the closing of Regina Hall and the re-opening of O’Brien Hall. Although this could be hard to adapt for some, it could also create a new overall look for SXU.

The green space could possibly be the next hottest spot on campus where students can relax, read, or even host events throughout the year. And O’Brien is new and exciting, it would be impossible for it not to change the way students live around campus. By O’Brian opening, we may create a more open community that invites students into new friendships and bonds that last a lifetime.

New students are coming next year, and this means a more diverse campus with possibilities of new clubs, activities, and new ideas that shape SXU into the great campus that it is.

I remember coming here this year as a transfer student and being terrified of how many changes I would be going through. However, after living on campus for a year and immersing myself in the SXU community I feel strongly about new students living up to their full potential here at SXU.

A change I would like to see next year is a bigger and grander commuter corner for commuter students to relax and unwind, work on homework and study, or even meet with other students. This would be a great addition to the SXU community.

A community garden would also be a beautiful way for SXU students to interact with nature.

This change would only have a positive impact on the community as students learn how to care for wildlife and plants, grow their own veggies and fruit, and find themselves immersed in a world of beauty as they see their plants grow.

SXU should also host more University Housing Staff events throughout next year, so residents can meet their housing staff and get to know them more. It is through community that we grow into something incredible and based on the changes happening around campus for the upcoming school year, the achieved growth will be incredible.

I am a little scared and nervous for next year, but more than that I am excited and thrilled to see SXU bettering itself as a community and as a university. With more opportunities for students to grow and find out who they are, SXU is heading in the right direction. Summer may be upon us and with that comes a break from thinking about school and classes, yet it is exciting to think about what we are coming back to. We are coming back home.

We are coming back to a home where community is at our core and we can truly be ourselves. Next year will be better than this year, and I cannot wait to see what the future holds.
