Another Win for the Volleyball Team Makes it Their 7th straight

The women’s volleyball team has been on a roll as of late. The team has been out there racking up the wins winning eight of their last nine matches.

This is no surprise though, as the team’s success can be attested to their hard work and extensive amount of team chemistry.

I had the pleasure of talking to junior middle Alex Lambros and she stressed the importance of the teams’ chemistry by saying, “In practice, in games, where or whenever, we (the team) always make sure to make sure we’re not only pushing ourselves but also making sure to push and uplift each other. When we are able to come together as a team, we believe we can take on anyone”.

SXU has shown that it takes consistent effort, work ethic, and teamwork to be successful in the sport of volleyball. This Cougar volleyball team is starting to mold themselves into the perfect model of winning team let’s hope they can continue to find success leading into their next game.

Tuesday, September 26 vs. Cardinal Stitch University

It was a big game for the Cougars as the team, now 16-3, went up against the 5-11 Cardinal Stitch University in a home game. With an ever streak of success there was a lot on the line for the Cougars in this game.

For one, they’re on a six-game winning streak, and it’s almost guaranteed that the team would like to keep this going. To add on, the team is playing at home and when playing at home there is always the pressure of defending home court.

Thankfully for the Cougars, both their winning streak and their pride stayed intact as the Cougars beat Cardinal Stitch three sets to zero (with scores of 25-16, 25-12, 25-20). SXU was out to establish themselves from the start, going on a huge run that out them up 13-4 in the first set.

Cardinal Stitch started storming back and got the score within eight, but the Cougars quickly closed set one out within the next play.

Set two, was much of the same. SXU went on a huge run, and CSU was simply unable to compete.

Most of this can be credited to the frontline for SXU as junior Rory Manion and senior Kate Bontrager combined for 21 of the team’s 49 total kills. This, along with a couple of CSU service errors, allowed the Cougars to walk away with a dominant set two victory.

Set three was a bit of a different story as it saw the two teams starting to go back and forth. CSU was holding their own late as they stormed back and got the game as close as 19-21.

The Cougars, weren’t going to blow it though as they went on a 4-1 run to close out the game and give them a set three victory and a match win.

With the win, volleyball has won seven straight. An amazing feat that is sure to be tested in their upcoming home game against Judson University.

For a recap of many other events around campus keep it locked at the Xavierite.
